Frequently asked

Why does it ask me to tap before the session starts?

To find out where your breathing actually is right now. Tap once on each out-breath while breathing normally. After about six taps Lull knows your current rate and starts the session there instead of imposing a number on you. If you would rather not, choose Skip measuring and it begins at a sensible default.

I can't keep up with the ring

Don't force it. Breathe close to it rather than exactly with it; within a few breaths it settles by itself. The ring is a guide, not a test — there is no score and nothing to fail.

Is it slowing me down too fast?

It should not be. The descent takes a little over half the session and follows a smooth curve, so each breath is only slightly longer than the one before. If it still feels rushed, pick a longer session: the same descent is spread over more minutes.

My rate number went down. Is that me or the app?

Both. The number at the top right is the pace the ring is currently leading at, and it moves from the rate measured from your taps toward about six breaths a minute. You following it is the whole exercise.

Why does my out-breath get longer than my in-breath?

Because that is the part that actually calms you. Slowing down alone does less than a long exhale does. Over a session the out-breath grows to roughly 1.6× the in-breath. You do not have to count any of it — just follow the ring.

Why does the screen go dark?

So nothing pulls your eyes back open near the end. It is intentional and the session is still running; the sound continues if you have it on.

My phone screen turns off mid-session

Lull asks the system to keep the screen awake, but some browsers and some battery-saver modes do not allow it. In that case extend the auto-lock time in your phone settings, or use the installed app rather than the browser.

There is no sound

Check that sound is switched on from the home screen, that your phone is not on silent, and that the volume is up. The breath sound is generated by the app — there are no audio files to download, so it also works offline.

I feel dizzy or light-headed

Stop and go back to normal breathing. Slow, deep breathing does not suit everyone. If it keeps happening, do not continue using the app and talk to your doctor. Lull is a relaxation tool, not a medical device: it does not diagnose or treat anything, and it must never be used while driving.

Does it cost anything? Are there ads?

No and no. Version 1.0 is entirely free, with no in-app purchases, no subscription, no advertising and no analytics of any kind.

What do you store about me?

Nothing leaves your phone. Your session length, sound preference and streak are saved in local storage on the device only. There is no account, no server and nothing for us to read.

How do I delete my data?

Uninstall the app. Everything it stored is local and is removed with it. See the Privacy Policy for detail.
